Advancing the frontiers of universal connectivity
Developing a new generation of communications solutions that deliver connectivity with unprecedented speed, scalability, mobility, privacy, security and resilience.
Our objectives
The Future Communications Research Centre seeks to change the way data services are delivered in the future, by innovating across several areas of physical, virtual and application communication technologies.
There are a number of new physical technology areas, such as:
- the use of multi frequency array antennas
- optics and lasers
- quantum communications
- Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations.
We seek to virtualise communications on cloud computing, and federate networking and processing across connectivity modes including:
- 5/6G mobile networks
- satellites
- wireless internet-of-things
- drone based platforms.
At the application level, we are advancing:
- privacy-preserving communications
- post-quantum cryptography and security
- network resilience
- content optimisation.
